General Assembly
Interpol
Have you ever wondered what would happen if all the computers in your school got blacked out, or if the money in your parents’ bank account mysteriously went missing? Or what if some of the cash you have in your wallet is fake? The International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) is an independent supranational organization which helps law enforcement authorities of different countries to collaborate with the aim of stopping transnational crime (crimes that occur in more than one country). As the world becomes digitized, cybercrimes are emerging in society; criminals now often use digital means to target people for ransom and general chaos. Counterfeit currency is created without a government’s approval and is another tool for criminals that creates destructive economic effects and promotes organized crime. In this committee, delegates will have the opportunity to discuss these 2 complex issues and work with different blocs to create solutions and policies which promote global security.
ASEAN
Join the ASEAN committee and shape Southeast Asia's impact on the world stage. You will work on important regional problems as a representative of an ASEAN member or observer state. China is a major global trading partner and a worldwide economic and military power, but they frequently use that power to benefit themselves at the expense of ASEAN members. Meanwhile there have been problems related to democracy and human rights, including free speech, freedom of the press, and combating discrimination against the disadvantaged. As delegates, you will collaborate to create policies that guarantee all citizens, regardless of socioeconomic standing or background, equal representation in their government. By joining ASEAN, you will become part of a community of dedicated individuals working towards a better future for all Southeast Asians.
Specialized
ICJ
Greece and Türkiye. Although they are allied under the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), these countries have been enemies for centuries. Over the past 100 years, these countries have been engaged in constant cultural, political, and legal arguments with each other, often just narrowly avoiding war. Who is in the right amidst the current situation of militarization and resources in the Eastern Aegean Sea? What should the Hagia Sofia, an important cultural and historic site for the Greek Orthodox faith currently located in Türkiye, act as: a mosque, a church, or a museum, and why? How should the stalemate in Cyprus be addressed in the future between the two countries? In the ICJ, we will simulate the highest court of the UN, debating the legal precedents and provisions behind these controversial issues and others, with the goal of reaching a more peaceful Mediterranean Sea!
UNODC (United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime)
Drugs are all around us. From Fentanyl to Cocaine, drugs are being sold, traded, and marketed illegally. Join us to tackle the opioid crisis as well as the ongoing illicit drug trafficking crimes occurring around the world. The opioid crisis affects those near and far with thousands dying everywhere. People have been capitalizing on this crisis through drug trafficking; drugs are being sold on black markets by drug dealers and cartel members. Debating and finding solutions in this ongoing issue will help our world become one step closer to a world with less crime and illegal illicit activities. These drugs have posed a threat not only to citizens’ wellbeing, but also to the overall stability of a country: reliance on a specific drug for economic gain can cause instability in a country. Together we can tackle the opioid crisis as well as helping us to find a solution in which we can help countries become safer and less reliant on illegal products to sustain their economy.
Cold War
The year is 1961. Two new leaders have appeared on the Cold War stage: Nikita Khruschev and John F. Kennedy. Both of them need to prove that they can stand up for their countries and their blocs while avoiding taking the world into a Nuclear war. Enter a world of espionage, assassination, and danger around every corner. A storm is brewing between the east and the west, communism versus capitalism. Do you have what it takes to prevent mutually assured destruction, or will you be caught in between an exchange of nuclear weapons? No matter your position, in this committee you will each try to disarm the tensions of the cold war, and face crises that will determine the future of the human race.
Crisis
National Crime Syndicate
The New York City Mafias – everyone’s heard of them. The real question, however, is do you know what really goes on in organized crime? In the National Crime Syndicate, you will be tossed into the world of the mafia, with clashing families battling not only for reputation and power, but for territory inside the city as well. Members will debate some of the most pressing issues facing 20th century mafia members: Gaining power and gaining money (Lots of it). Do you think you have what it takes to rule the city?
New York Disaster Committee
During the last 25 years New York City has witnessed some of the most devastating disasters the world has ever seen. Affecting over 8 million people, these catastrophes have caused power, food, and gas outages, damages to property, and many injured civilians. You and your fellow committee members will have the fate of New York City in your hands. Will you have the courage to save these people? As members of this organization, you must consider the vastness of New York City, in both population and landmass when proposing solutions. Other considerations include looking at past disaster relief plans and understanding which solutions worked and which ones didn’t. After all, history repeats itself.
Marvel Avengers Committee
Since the Battle of New York, The Avengers have been defending the Earth and its people against numerous catastrophes. However, the opinion surrounding them has begun to shift. People are now asking the question: Are the Avengers doing more harm than good? Sokovia was completely leveled due to Ultron, a threat that the Avengers are responsible for creating. Furthermore, the organization that once oversaw The Avengers was uncovered to be controlled by the Neo-Nazi organization, Hydra. The proposed Sokovia Accords offer a solution to this problem. Established by the United Nations, and ratified by 117 nations, the accords would serve as a middle ground between the Avengers desire to secure world peace, and the world's fear of the repercussions of their actions. It’s up to the Avengers whether they want to agree to this proposal or not. Would you choose to ratify or not? Do the accords propose a helpful, necessary solution or are they stripping the Avengers of their freedom?
