Committees
General Assembly
ICJ
Greece and Türkiye. Although they are allied under the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), these countries have been enemies for centuries. Over the past 100 years, these countries have been engaged in constant cultural, political, and legal arguments with each other, often just narrowly avoiding war. Who is in the right amidst the current situation of militarisation and resources in the Eastern Aegean Sea? What should the Hagia Sofia, an important cultural and historic site for the Greek Orthodox faith currently located in Türkiye, act as: a mosque, a church, or a museum, and why? How should the stalemate in Cyprus be addressed in the future between the two countries? In the ICJ, we will simulate the highest court of the UN, debating the legal precedents and provisions behind these controversial issues and others, with the goal of reaching a more peaceful Mediterranean Sea!
INTERPOL
Have you ever wondered what would happen if all the computers in your school got blacked out, or if the money in your parents’ bank account mysteriously went missing? Or what if some of the cash you have in your wallet is fake? The International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) is an independent supranational organization which helps law enforcement authorities of different countries to collaborate with the aim of stopping transnational crime (crimes that occur in more than one country). As the world becomes digitized, cybercrimes are emerging in society; criminals now often use digital means to target people for ransom and general chaos. Counterfeit currency is created without a government’s approval and is another tool for criminals that creates destructive economic effects and promotes organized crime. In this committee, delegates will have the opportunity to discuss these 2 complex issues and work with different blocs to create solutions and policies which promote global security.
ASEAN
Join the ASEAN committee and shape Southeast Asia's impact on the world stage. You will work on important regional problems as a representative of an ASEAN member or observer state. China is a major global trading partner and a worldwide economic and military power, but they frequently use that power to benefit themselves at the expense of ASEAN members. Meanwhile there have been problems related to democracy and human rights, including free speech, freedom of the press, and combating discrimination against the disadvantaged. As delegates, you will collaborate to create policies that guarantee all citizens, regardless of socioeconomic standing or background, equal representation in their government. By joining ASEAN, you will become part of a community of dedicated individuals working towards a better future for all Southeast Asians.
